Hi, I’m Kortney Karnok, LCSW, MSW.
(she/her/hers)
Kortney is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work (MSW) from UW-Madison. She helps people navigate life challenges with a focus on strength, compassion, and connection. She brings a touch of humor and authenticity into sessions with clients, as she believes showing up genuinely in the therapy room is integral to fostering trust and building strong therapeutic relationships. She strives to create a space where you can feel safe and comfortable being fully yourself. Her work is informed by elements of Intuitive Eating, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT). She practices from a weight and size inclusive model of health and wellness, offering care grounded in evidence-based practice and informed by lived experience.
What made you decide to go into this specialty?
My own personal struggle with eating disorders and behavioral health challenges spanned years of my life, directly influencing my education and career paths. After several years working in the corporate food industry--where I literally worked in a cookie and cake factory--I changed trajectories to the fitness industry as a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, CrossFit and weightlifting coach with a special interest in nutrition.
After experiencing many harmful aspects of diet and fitness culture firsthand, my own recovery and healing came after years of learning and applying an anti-diet, body-acceptance approach to fitness and wellness. This shift evolved into a passion for helping others repair their own fraught relationships with food, body, and exercise through an Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size-informed framework. Wanting to expand my scope beyond coaching, I returned to school for my Master of Social Work degree, acquiring the necessary training and deepening my clinical skills to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My work at Edelweiss Behavioral Health has further broadened my experience across a range of mental and behavioral health concerns.
