Hi, I’m Erika Steinbauer, PA-C, CAQ-Psych.
(she/her/hers)
I am a Physician Assistant with specialized training in psychiatry and perinatal mental health.
Have you ever felt rushed through a mental health visit, or like you were reduced to “just” a diagnosis or a list of symptoms? You are more than that. You are a complex, whole person with a story that deserves to be seen and understood.
Erika practices through a holistic, compassionate, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ+ inclusive lens, with a strong focus on quality of life. She is deeply committed to building a meaningful level of trust with each client, creating a therapeutic alliance grounded in safety, curiosity, and collaboration. She takes the time to truly understand each person, exploring their mental health across the lifespan while thoughtfully integrating medical history . Her evaluations are thorough, and her care is carefully tailored to reflect each person’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals.
Erika believes that medication, when used thoughtfully, can be a powerful and life-changing tool. She takes a minimalistic and intentional approach to prescribing, aiming for the lowest effective doses and continuing medications only when they provide clear benefit. Alongside medication management, she regularly checks in on sleep, nutrition, movement, and social support, recognizing that mental wellness extends far beyond prescriptions. To complement this, Erika incorporates brief supportive therapy into sessions. Her style is warm and welcoming, and patients often leave feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about their path forward.
What made you decide to go into this specialty?
I was drawn to psychiatry because I’ve always been fascinated by how the mind works and how deeply mental health affects every aspect of a person’s life. Early in my training, I realized I wanted to help people not just manage symptoms, but also understand themselves, build resilience, and improve their overall quality of life. I love that psychiatry allows me to combine medical knowledge with a human-centered, compassionate approach.
Recently, after the birth of my son, I’ve developed a particular interest in perinatal psychiatry. Experiencing the postpartum period firsthand has given me a deeper understanding of the emotional, hormonal, and life changes that parents navigate, and it has strengthened my passion for supporting individuals and families through this transformative time.
